NDM Baseline assessment: Learner response

WWW- There's a lot to credit here: clearly engaged with NDM with a variety of interesting examples. One key aspect to work on however..

EBI- Question focus! You lose your way in the middle of the essay and drift away from power, views and values. You must keep using the key words from the question.

It's great you're trying to bring in media theory but don't explain it - apply it! You need to use theory to develop or challenge the argument you are constructing.

Essay writing basics. I'd like a brief introduction + conclusion that focuses on the question.

New essay paragraph- Another key development in new/digital media would be Twitter which is a micro-blogging website that is free to use which therefore empowers the users massively because views can easily be shared online. The development of Twitter has also brought about various types of opinion leaders who would have gathered a huge number of following on social media, their ideas and posts can have a major influence on people and hold a certain amount of value. On one hand, opinion leaders can have a major influence on higher classes and the majority as them are also of a higher class which therefore means that audiences are not empowered. The major example of this would be Piers Morgan who has over three million followers and has his own editorial column on the Daily Mail and he is considered of a higher class. Another term for higher class would be the bourgeois which are the group of people in society who have the most amount of power and influence over the rest of the society. Karl Marx's theory can be applied into this as people have grown out of just reading out of newspapers about what journalists and opinion leaders think and more into making their own agendas and news with the power of social media. We can see this happening as user generated content is being more and more mainstream and people are losing trust and faith in national and international news outlets as well as opinion leaders. Another key feature that Twitter has brought about was the rapid speed of content being posted. News and blog posts can be easily created and shared much quicker than ever before. It has also dipped into the youth demographic who are the majority when it comes to social media and especially Twitter. This has allowed more and more young people to be involved with the news and there has been a growth in young opinion leaders who are not necessarily in the bourgeois nor higher class bracket which is going against Dyer's theory of stereotypes.
